Abstract
The effect of immersion time on the corrosion inhibition of Benzothiazole (BTH) and Benzotriazole (BTAH) on austenitic stainless steel 304 in 1M HCl solution was investigated through electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and polarization techniques. Although the organic compounds both showed inhibitive performance, EIS data as well as polarization curves revealed that the presence of sulfur atom in the molecular structure of BTH could make this molecule more effective than BTAH. As immersion time elapsed, the polarization resistance met an increase of BTAH whilst no change was observed in the case of BTH.
