Abstract

Aluminum and its alloys, after iron, took the second place in most industries, but they are not stable
when they are subjected to corrosion and erosion. One of the conventional methods for protection of
metals against corrosion and soft erosion is usage of ceramic coating. In this research, sol-gel method
has been used in preparation of a ceramic coating with different weight ratios of Alumina to Zirconia.
Synthesized coatings after applied on aluminum samples have been heat treated at different temperatures.
Prepared coatings have been studied by scanning electron microscopy. The results of corrosion
tests show that samples with more contents of zirconia and lower heat treatment reveal higher corrosion
resistance.
