Abstract

In this paper aminopropyl trimethoxy silane (APTS) was deposited on galvanized steel with and without application of electrical current. The corrosion protective properties of the deposited layer were investigated by EIS. The chemical structure of the deposited film was studied by means of FTIR-RA and morphology of the surface film was examined by SEM. Result revealed that at specific voltage, the electrically deposited layer has higher corrosion resistance compared to the one deposited without current application. FTIR showed higher silane content for the electrically deposited layer. SEM micrographs showed formation of a more uniform and compact film where the silane was deposited at optimal voltage.
