Abstract

In this paper, the effects of three types of micro and nano glass flakes on the properties of epoxy vinyl ester composite coatings have been investigated. In micro scale, the micronized and milled glass flake and in nano scale, the milled glass flake are used. The dynamic scanning calorimetric results (DSC) showed that the cure reaction is affected by micro and nano glass flake. Activation energy and crosslink density decreased when these fillers were used. From DSC study, it can be concluded that nano glass flakes, in comparison with micro glass flakes, cause further delay in curing process. Furthermore, coroosion properties of the composites were evaluated by salt spray test. The samples which contain no filler showed the lowest corrosion resistance. The anticorrosion properties of samples were improved in the presence of micro and nano glass flake.
