Abstract

Naphthalimide compounds are obtained using standard chemical reactions such as nitration, oxidation and amination from acenaphthene and its derivatives. Some of the naphthalimide derivatives have been introduced as dyes in textiles and polymers dyeing and some others have been used as fluorescent brighteners, fluorescent dyes and sensors. Naphthalimide dyes generally have high color strength, high brightness and their fastness properties are good. The presence of different chemical substituent on the naphthalimide dyes are affected their color properties and provide a variety of features. That’s why very wide researches on the synthesis, dyeing properties and applications of naphthalimide dyes have been done and several articles were published so far. The present article intends to identify approximately all naphthalimide dyes which have been synthesized up to now and study their various properties and applications.
